The major research focus in the Luznik lab is the immunobiology of graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) responses and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Currently, there are three primary lines of investigation. First, we are studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing T cell-dendritic cell (DC) interactions after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT). Second, we are studying the mechanisms that are critical for inducing and maintaining tolerance and how these two fundamental processes can be therapeutically modulated in allogeneic chimeras. Finally, we are performing studies to decipher the mechanisms behind drug-induced immunologic tolerance as a method to suppress GVHD without causing global immune incompetence. In our studies, laboratory uses wide range of GVHD animal models and relevant transgenic strains as well as focuses on the evaluation of human immune responses after alloHSCT.
