Active research in my laboratory is focused on sex differences and the effects of pregnancy as well as aging on humoral and cell-mediated immunity to viruses and vaccines. We use small animal models as well as PBMC and plasma samples from patients to interrogate how females have greater immunity to viruses and vaccines than males, with consideration of how aging and pregnancy alter immunity. We further address how genetic as well as hormonal variation affects immunity to viruses and vaccines.
