Research:
1. Our research laboratory focuses on how tumor associated macrophages in prostate cancer promote therapeutic resistance and metastasis.
2. The current goal of the our laboratory is to understand the immune responses in prostate cancer, and why it remains resistant to immunotherapy. A significant portion of our research is based principally on tumor associated macrophage biology and infiltration into human prostate cancer tumors and, how it correlates with immunotherapy resistance and metastasis. Leveraging cutting edge tools, clinically relevant syngeneic prostate cancer models, and surgically resected human prostate cancer tissues, the Zarif lab is able to elucidate mechanisms of therapeutic resistance ascribed to macrophages. We are particularly interested in targeting macrophages using surface enriched markers to help prostate cancer overcome tumor immunity.
3. Prostate Cancer, tumor associated macrophages, Cancer Immunology, tumor immunity, metastasis
